Curriculum Development

The Implementation Plan includes the establishment of clear, up-to-date curricular standards and corresponding syllabi for ICT literacy, ICT integration for Educators, First Level Technical Support and ICT as an examinable subject.

ICT Literacy

The ICT Literacy Certification is designed to serve as the basis for computer literacy standards and curricula in the country. Operating within the guidelines of the National Qualifications Authority (NQA), the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) is helping coordinate and facilitate the development and approval of the ICT Literacy Certificate.

The ICT Literacy Certificate includes three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. The Foundation Level ICT Literacy certification was developed through the NTA through a collaboration of local stakeholders, and is approved by the NQA as a nationally-recognised certification. Click here to access the standards and curriculum.

The Intermediate and Advanced Levels of ICT Literacy Certification will be achieved through completion of modules of the International Computer Drivers License (ICDL). (see article Namibia Now Accredited Computer Certifier.) Successful completion of four of the seven ICDL modules will earn a tester an Intermediate Level ICT Literacy Certificate. Successful completion of all seven ICDL modules will constitute the successful completion of the Advanced Level ICT Literacy Certificate. Click here to see an overview of the ICDL modules.

ICT Integration

In order to equip Namibian educators with the skills to utilise ICT as a pedagogic tool, the ICT Integration for Educators Certificate was created. Successful completion of all six modules (listed below) will earn the educator a NQA-approved certification.

Similar to the process of creating a Foundation Level ICT Literacy Certificate, various stakeholders collaborated to create standards and syllabi for this certification. With the assistance of the NTA, the certificate is in the process of also getting its approval from the NQA. Click here to access the unit standards and curriculum for these six modules.

First Level Technical Support

Technical support is crucial to the success of Tech/Na! As such, at least two individuals at each school will be required to complete a course on First Level Technical Support (FLTS). FLTS will give teachers the skills to basic troubleshoot and identify problems to escalate to the NETSS Centre. This course is the process of being developed by the NETSS Centre team.

ICT as an Examinable Subject

Schools with secondary grades will continue to use curricula and content from Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for Computer Studies for Grades 11 and 12. The CIE Computer Studies will also be implemented for Grades 8-10 where appropriate ICTs are available.
