Content Availability

Currently, there are numerous electronic teaching and learning materials being used in schools throughout Namibia. To ensure that electronic content (or “e-content”) is available across the educational sector, content will be adopted, adapted and developed to cover all subject areas for all grades.

June 2005 saw the creation of an E-Learning Centre (ELC) to coordinate and support the technology-enhanced teaching and learning (or “e-learning”) activities of all educational institutions. Click here (web address) for more information about the ELC.

The adoption and adaptation of content is a temporary measure. While content is being adapted, the ELC will coordinate the development of locally relevant content. Digital Content Evaluators at the National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) have developed a digital content evaluation tool to assess the usefulness of content packages for Namibian learners. Click here to download the evaluation tool developed by NIED Education Officers.

In the first year of implementation, content packages from LearnThings Africa and Cambridge University Press will be utilised.

Special attention is being made to develop e-content specifically to support previously disadvantaged learners highlighted in the ICT Policy for Education.

These groups include:

  • Girls
  • Learners with special needs
  • Orphans and vulnerable children
  • Marginalised groups (OvaHimba, San and children of farm workers)
  • Teachers and learners made vulnerable due to HIV/AIDS
